That's totally normal! Head voice is naturally lighter in quality than chest voice. You can train firmer cord closure by singing on a lip trill or NG in head voice - then gradually open up to vowels like OO and EE, which are easier to sing with a clear, focused tone (compared to more open vowels like AH).
