Cause of hoarseness in performance

Thank you for your kind response Camille. In an effort to avoid a repeat of this incident, what might I have been doing wrong to cause the hoarseness while performing? I simply said I must've overdone it, but what specifically might that be? Too much belting? Singing in keys above my normal range? Appreciate your input always, Randy

Typically, overdoing it comes down to singing in a range that's taxing (usually high), at a volume that's taxing (could be quietly or loudly), for a long time. Another common issue is oversinging because you can't hear yourself well. A few things to try next time: work with the sound engineer so you can hear yourself well, take regular breaks, stay hydrated, trust your technique (to avoid oversinging or straining), and choose songs in a comfortable range. Break a leg! :)
