    Hi Camille,

I have a question. When raising the soft palate, do you always have to lower the back of the tongue too?

Hi, Aaron! It's possible to lift the palate and sing with a high tongue - but we do tend to naturally lower the tongue when lifting the palate (since that's what happens when we yawn).

Try lifting the palate and then switching between an UH and EE vowel. You should feel your tongue lift and lower, while the soft palate can remain lifted.

Thanks for the help! That really allowed me to move the back of my tongue while keeping my soft palate lifted!
