A Tension exercise

    Hi Everyone,

So I found a Video that helps with jaw tension and it gave me an exercise.  The exercise was pretty much making the "ng" sound, and then doing sirens while moving your jaw around.  It helped, but I have a question still.  When I do this exercise, I have no tension.  Except when I'm not doing this exercise, I still sometimes might.  How can I have no tension even when I'm not doing this exercise?

I think it'll just take some time for your jaw to "trust" that it doesn't need to "help out" by tensing. I recommend singing through a warmup pattern on the NG sound, then trying it on another vowel or syllable and trying to keep that feeling of release. You can also sing the melody of a song using that NG and try to keep that release when you add lyrics back.
