Can't go low in Lip Trills

    Hello all,

I've just started today and I'm sure excited. I ran through the first 3 videos now and am Lip trilling along with Jonathan.

I don't know if it's just a naturally higher voice, but the first 2 upwards going scales from the warm up, I can't get back to the first note normally. It seems to be out of pitch and very breathy. I don't think the starting note is perfect, but the return to the first note in the first 2 scales seems impossible to reach again.

What's happening here? This was a paint point from my previous vocal course as well. Can't get over it haha.

It's hard to say without hearing you, but I'd try a different configuration (rather than the lip trill) to see if that's making it more difficult. I do love the lip trill, but beginners sometimes struggle with leaking extra air, leading to a lack of energy and support at the end of a phrase. Some alternatives to try:

    Straw singing

    VV

    ZZ

    MM

    NN

    Hi Camille,

Thanks for you reply! I'll try that when I arrive at the straw singing lesson and then try to incorporate them!
