Falsetto Fumble

    Hi Camille,

When I sing loud I can reach as high as F5, but when I sing softer, I cannot reach F5 and my voice becomes falsetto.  What drills can I use to help sing higher with softer voice and without going falsetto?  Also, is this related to proper vocal fold closure?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    Jay

Hi, Jay! Falsetto and head voice have essentially the same vocal fold function (more CT muscle, less TA muscle, with the folds thinner and stretching longer). Falsetto just has a little less cord closure. To encourage your folds to stay together more strongly, use SOVT's like straw singing or vocalizing on an NG!
